2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Euro-Spec the Shorter Sibling

A bit disappointment in US market, new Version of Tiguan will only available with long-wheelbase variant in United State as the American complaining the lack of space. However, the Euro Spec kept on the standard version, a shorter sibling that already introduced as 2017 models while the longer model would be introduce as 2018 model in US.

Actually, this shorter sibling does not carry a lot o differences. Powertrain features and road manners are very close to be identical with long-wheel base models. What makes the siblings different is the body dimension, although it is hardly noticeable if the car did not park next to each other.

Although shorter, European Tiguan is more spacious than the previous models. Volkswagen increased the wheelbase to 105.6 inches (grown by 3.1 inches). While the body dimension is made bigger, the body weight is made lighter (100 pounds lighter). Since the window is smaller than larger models, visibility is average in standard models. Optional third row is available. For this option, the middle row could be slide back and forth.

Using 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder TSI engine, this new Tiguan for European market get 180-hp. Engine option turbo-diesel 2.0-liter is on the plan but they do not yet complete the certification so currently, it is single-powertrain. The choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive are remain. On the package, adjustable chassis modes allow Tiguan to conquer any conditions with off-road setting.

While US models will get 8-speed automatic, Europe version is using dual-clutch automatic 7-speed. Responsive powertrain is to be expected although performance seems do not improve. From the tests, it needs 7.5 seconds to move from 0-60 mph. The top speed is estimated for 130 mph.

As for features, Euro Spec Tiguan oozes sophistication. The European models come with highly legible modern display. It could show broad navigation map. The backside already has LED taillights as standard spec while LED headlights are optional.
